For the fourth time since his arrest in July, physician/human rights activist/independent journalist Dr. Darsi Ferrer Ramírez is Uncommon Sense's Cuban Political Prisoner of the Week.

The latest designation comes as the world prepares to commemorate International Human Rights Day on Thursday, Dec. 10. In prior years, Ferrer has led peaceful protests in Havana, but since he is likely to still be in jail, it falls on the rest of us to pick up his banner and demand that human rights be restored and respected in Cuba, and that Dr. Ferrer be immediately released from prison.

You can do that by joining a blogburst/blogaccíon being planned for his behalf.

Time To Party With Your Parents Once Again ;)

Some dear friends of gen ñ are throwing a great concert (They throw one every year!) that recalls Cuba's golden age and is sure to get the mamis, papis, abuelos, and abuelas going - it's the annual benefit concert, Risas y Música Para Cuba, coming up October 12 at the Dade Country Auditorium.

This year they've got Luis Aguilé direct from Spain to sing his famous song "Cuando Sali De Cuba." And Roberto "Caballo Viejo" Torres, comedy from Alfonso Cremata, boleros from Renee Barrios, Latin jazz from Negroni's Trio, tango/cha cha cha/salsa dancers ...and some surprise guests (hehe, they're always a little bit sneaky!) - it will be a great Sunday afternoon as usual!!

Those of you who have attended and/or bought tickets for your parents/grandparents in years prior know it's a great time for them since the whole show recalls Cuba's great era in all it's glory. The artwork to the right has the date/place/time and number to call for further info and tickets. Below that is the Ad, so you can get hyped up. It has the number and details also.

meet Generation Y

Back in the 90s generation ñ burst to life with a credo decicated to everyone who "grew up with Santa Barbara & Captain Kirk, who went to Forrest and Casanovas, and went to 'el Farrito' with their families".

Someone must have slipped a copy of gen ñ to Yoani Sanchez in Cuba. She dedicates her popular generation Y blog to those born in Cuba in the 70s and 80s who grew up with "Russian Dolls, illegal defection, and frustration", and she calls her blog 'generation Y' for all the Y names that popped up in that era. In fact, she shouts out to all the "Yanisleidi, Yoandri, Yusimí, Yuniesky"'s out there.

Last week the Cuban government tried to shut down her dissenting voice, and brought her site down. USA Today quotes the 32 year old student as saying "They are admitting that no alternative way of thinking can exist in Cuba, but people will continue reading us somehow,". We're sending you a shout fellow ñ, er... or rather, Y. What happens when you cross ñ and y anyway? It'll be fun to find out.

The NY Times had this killer story entitled 'Cyber-Rebels in Cuba Defy State's Limits' in early March. From the NY Times story by JAMES C. McKINLEY Jr:

- A growing underground network of young people armed with computer memory sticks, digital cameras and clandestine Internet hookups has been mounting some challenges to the Cuban government in recent months, spreading news that the official state media try to suppress.
