Hi. Hi all. I searched youtube to find the right clip to hip you to the new show Mad Men. Couldn't find one that was representative of how good it is. A lot of our viewers are in media in some form or other. You'll love it. A lot of our viewers are NOT in media (though these days, who isn't?). You'll love it too.
It's the 60s. It's New York, it's the George Lois era. It's the days of Advertising with a capitol A. Smoking cigarrettes in the office and the three martini lunch. Get on it now, get on it early, cause it's going to be hotter than The Sopranos. The new Hot Show. You can download season 1 at iTunes, or watch On Demand. Season 2 just started.

Few folks in the world

know as much or write so well about different genres of Latin music as Ramiro Burr. His Guide to Tejano and Regional Mexican Music is a jewel in the genre and he's been giving the down low to Billboard mag for a while now. At Ramiroburr.com he drops knowledge on Daddy Yankee and the new film he's producing about a young Reggaeton guy tryin' to make it, and how he hopes to blow up the Latino film scene. Interesting stuff - he seems to have the fan base to open a flick, in my opinion. Good for him.

Look! It's Spiderman!

At Colombia Passport Richard Bath has a great read about Camilo 'Spiderman' Vargas. He writes A fitness fanatic with a mullet that makes him look like a refugee from an Eighties boy band, he dresses like Ian Poulter, drives likes Tiger and has the mass appeal of Latino boxing deity Oscar de la Hoya. Read on by clicking here.

The excellent Jon Pareles in the NY Times reviews the Juan Luis Guerra concert from this weekend and says it was quite great right here. Remember that Terra.com launch party when they played in Miami? Only the best party ever thrown down here. This pic is from the NY Times photog Robert Caplin.

Pepito is a baller.

In this blog we've chronicled our main man Pepito as he's gone from bottle eye-glassed loser to fun, water skiing go-getter. We've marveled at the strangeness of the Ad campaign, we've marveled at how effective it is. (Note to self - We MUST do a story on Pepito / the ad campaign et all.)
As you can see in the Pepito post from earlier this month, it's not just generation ñ that is obsessed with Pepito - folks have him on their Flickr, he's got comments aplenty there. Some re-quoted in our older post below. But Rafa snapped this new pic on his iPhone last week, excited that Pepito was now dressed as an astronaut.
This pic is a tribute to a being that has no limits, even the very atmosphere of the earth itself. We swear we know nothing about this billboard expect tat it's strange, random and funny enough that we obsess about it a bit.
Just say to a friend out of the blue; "Pepito needs Lasik", and watch their eyes light up. "Oh my God! Have you seen that?" People get so excited, it's like a private acknowledgement that they're not losing their minds.
I remember my first encounter with him, as traffic crawls along Dixie, "I must be losing it. I think I just saw a billboard with a Water Skiing Poodle who got Lasik surgery." But no, he's real. He's very real. Miami's been needing a new mascot. The sky's the limit Pepito.
